In October last year, the People Power Party formalized its push to incorporate Gimpo City into Seoul.

In February of this year, People Power Party floor leader Yoon Jae-ok announced that he would push for the reorganization of administrative districts in Seoul and Gyeonggi, and formalized a plan to create the so-called 'Mega Seoul' by incorporating not only Gimpo but also surrounding cities such as Guri into Seoul.

Many local government heads and local civic groups strongly opposed this plan, which was announced a few months before the general election, saying it was a measure that ran counter to the balanced development policy.

The People Power Party eventually announced its plan to build a super-powerful mega city connecting not only Seoul but also Busan, Gwangju, and Daejeon and Daegu.

The controversy over Gimpo City's incorporation into Seoul has spread into a nationwide megacity issue.

The research team revealed for the first time the results of a megacity construction simulation centered on Korea's metropolitan cities through 'Current Affairs Planning Window'.

Which cities are included in which megacities?

What are the standards?

Which cities are not included in the megacities and what should these cities do in the future?

How far should we view the Seoul metropolitan megacity area, which is the core of the controversy?

The research team also conducted an experiment targeting the Bu, Ul, and Gyeong regions to determine how financial investments should be made for mega cities to succeed.

As a result, 14 cities emerged as core regions for mega city investment in Bu, Ul, and Gyeong.

The locations of those cities will be revealed in the ‘Current Affairs Planning Window’.

Experts point out that the megacity discussion, which began with Gimpo's incorporation into Seoul, caused misunderstanding among the public.

It is explained that the direction of the policy was undesirable because it was a policy that was developed without sufficient review of feasibility in the overall design under various conditions.

It is emphasized that reorganizing administrative districts by combining neighboring cities next to a specific city is not the purpose of a mega city, there is no such example in the world, and it is misunderstood.

It is said that not only politicians but also experts related to mega cities do not know much about ‘mega cities.’

What is the concept of a mega city, what is most important when creating a mega city, and how administrative districts should be determined in a mega city? We will summarize the reality of a mega city that the public should know.
